THE QUEEN’S GREEN CANOPY – TREE OF TREES PRESENTATION TO SYLVIA RUSSELL MBE
Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey CBE presented Sylvia Russell MBE from Lanark with a very special tree on Tuesday 10th January 2023 .
It was one of 350 saplings that made up the Tree of Trees , a giant sculpture constructed ar Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year. The sculpture was dismantled and the young trees allocated to every Lord Lieutenant in Britain .
Each tree was then awarded to organisations or individuals who had warranted such an honour . Lady Haughey singled out Sylvia, as recipient of one of only three trees in Lanarkshire, in recognition of Sylvia tireless work in the community over the years championing many causes including her sterling work as Chair of the Lanark Community Development Trust .
As well as the rowan tree ,which was planted in the car park opposite the Castlebank Horticultural Centre , Sylvia was presented with two plaques . The first is wall mounted and has been attached to the outside wall of the Horticultural Centre . The second, which Lady Haughey had personaly made commemorated the presentation ceremony and the visit by the Lord Lieutenant .
Commemorative Blue Plaque unveiled for Lanarkshire war hero
On Saturday 7th May 2022, the Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to attend a special ceremony to honour WWII Royal Navy Submariner and Victoria Cross recipient Lieutenant Donald Cameron. Born in Carluke, Lieutenant Donald Cameron received the Victoria Cross medal for outstanding bravery during World War II. Continue reading →
PRESENTATION OF QAVS AWARD TO SSAFA LANARKSHIRE
On 23rd November 2021 Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey CBE hosted a lunch at the Radstone Hotel , Larkhall , and presented the Lanarkshire Branch of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA ) with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) which had been awarded to the organisation in June 2020.

CITIZENSHIP CEREMONY -18TH DECEMBER 2019
In March 2018 the Lieutenancy launched the first of the Citizenship ceremonies in Lanarkshire involving secondary schools and by the end of this year a total of 32 schools will have participated in the Citizenship ceremonies involving around 1300 pupils and 80 teachers from schools in both North and South Lanarkshire Councils .
