The Watersports Centre at Strathclyde Park was the venue on 4th November 2024 for the presentation of the British Empire Medal to the following recipients :
Alice Waite BEM – New Year Honours 2024 – For services to Young People and to the community in Cambuslang .
Anne Lyon BEM – Birthday Honours 2024 – For services to Girl Guiding in South Lanarkshire .
Gwen Moir-Stewart BEM – Birthday Honours 2024 – For charitable services in South Lanarkshire .
Medals were presented by Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Lady Haughey CBE with both Provosts and Chief Executives of North and South Lanarkshire Council in attendance to congratulate Alice , Anne and Gwen .
Representatives of the Lieutenancy laid wreaths at Remembrance Services right across Lanarkshire to remember and honour all those who made the ultimate sacrifice .

Deputy Lieutenant Derrick Hannan DL represented Lanarkshire Lieutenancy at a special event for the Airdrie and Coatbridge Sea Cadets on 28th October 2024.
The group welcomed the Area Officer Commander Gary Farmer , RN to their inspection and presentation evening .
Mr Hannan said, ” I was impressed by the cadets and of the tremendous work they are doing . I was invited to present special Coronation Medals to various staff . They have to be warmly congratulated ”

In a tribute to Lanarkshire’s fallen heroes, the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy, will lay wreaths at 68 war memorials across towns and villages across the county over the Remembrance weekend.
This initiative follows extensive research that uncovered over 60 memorials, varying from smaller village monuments with only a few names to large memorials in the main towns.
Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Lady Susan Haughey CBE said: “This significant undertaking reflects the determination of the Lieutenancy to mark the ultimate sacrifice made by those who fell protecting our freedom. It is our honour to remember them with this act of respect at memorials stretching from Leadhills in the South to Stepps in North Lanarkshire.”
The Lieutenancy’s efforts symbolise a countywide commitment to preserving the legacy of those who served, ensuring each memorial receives recognition and remembrance in honour of their ultimate sacrifice.

Deputy Lieutenant Derrick Hannan DL visited the happy couple , passing on congratulations from Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Lady Haughey CBE whilst Depute Provost Bob Burgess presented flowers on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council .
Harry is a retired engineer and Christine , a retired psychiatric nurse and the couple have just returned from a family holiday one of many spent over the years .
